Talk about a character theme that just keeps running - always making personal connections! I’m definitely fine with this outcome, but I’m not seeing it on the Navy tables which makes me wonder if I have some other Mongoose Traveller 1.0 rulebook than you? My navy event 9 says:
You foil an attempted crime on board, such as mutiny, sabotage, smuggling or conspiracy. Gain an Enemy, but also gain a +2 DM to your next Advancement roll in the Nany.
As I said, I’m perfectly good with the Ally - I’m just trying to sort the discrepancy.

I don't want to use the other books for all their rules, but I like those tables more than these most of the time. And with your theme, I thought this one was better. If you'd rather have the other one, by all means take it.

Nope - just trying to sort the difference! I’ll stick with the Ally . I’ll assume you’re using HG for Mishaps as well? Are you using the rest of the tables from Navy (Survival, Advancement, Commission, Skills, etc)? I’d like to know the rolls for Commission vs Advancement before rolling.

Yep, I use all the other tables from the core book, I just think the events and mishaps in the splatbooks are way better.

Awesome, and I agree. It was actually what pushed me to make all of the tables I could in Star Wars Traveller d66 as opposed to 2d6 - I kind of craved the variety.
Well, Advancement is EDU 7+ and Commission is SOC 8+, and I’m sitting at +1 on either roll, so let’s go for Commission since that might be a nice story recognition for her heroics.

Praise the Stars! Just call me Ensign Xiadani, and I pick up Melee (blade) 1 in the process. (About time I learned some form of self-defense!).
As for rolling for an Advancement skill when you get a Commission instead, I checked the forums on RPGnet and Mongoose publishing as it’s actually not clear in the rules. Opinions vary, and there’s a lot of, “Your GM should choose” but there’s definitely a case to say it doesn’t trigger a skill roll because Advancement and Commission are stated as separate options and getting a Commission is kind of an achievement unlock (you get to roll on new tables, etc) and since I did get a skill at O1, I think it’s probably right to not grant a skill roll. What do you think?
In either case, I DO have to make an aging roll...

7-5=2, so no ill effects. Since I made Officer, I think I have to do another tour of duty. I’m a vibrant 38 years old, and perhaps this change of career is just what I needed!
